American Tactical

I have an opportunity for a good deal on a case of American Tactical 7.62x51 ammo, but I can't find enough reviews of this stuff online. Does anyone have experience with this stuff? It is supposedly NATO spec and made in Turkey. It is brass cased, non-corrosive and "looks" pretty decent.

The cartridge in question is 150 grain and will be used in a Springfield M1A.

Thanks,
Dim

No, thanks, that is good advice. If nothing else, it provides me with range ammo that comes with a reloadable case - and I have all the components to make great match-grade 168 grain ammo with. I'm steering towards this over the regular .308 deals because since it should be NATO spec - it should have the tougher primers which should alleviate the worry of the slamfire issue of non-mil spec ammo in the M1A platform.

Most European NATO spec ammo is Berdan primed, not Boxer like American made (which is what you want). If it is Berdan you will not be reloading it.

+1 I am guessing this is berdan primed too. Find out before you buy.

The funniest part is that Berdan is an American invention, and Boxer is European.

I checked the specs for 5.56mm NATO and Bx3 is correct in that both primers can be used for the round (priming method is not designated). Not sure about 7.62x51mm. If European rounds do not specify Boxer, assume they are Berdan.

Ammo To Go has the 5.56mm version, which is claimed to be Boxer, but I wouldn't count on it:

History is full of irony. The Maxim machine gun which allowed the Germans to dominate trench warfare in WWI also comes to mind.

It is boxer primed, I was in the shop yesterday and saw it firsthand.
